At island TURN LEFT for B4100 Warmington, on Banbury Road. STAY on B4100 for 8 miles.
At traffic lights TURN RIGHT for Drayton / Wroxton A422. FOLLOW your SatNav towards Wroxton
You will pass the Thatched roofed WROXTON HOUSE HOTEL on your right, with Thatch cottages ahead of you, ON BEND you will stay STRAIGHT AHEAD to take the narrow lane on left of this sharp right bend, signed WROXTON ONLY.
Slowly drive through this delightful picturesque Thatched village, and go along towards the Duck pond.

Wroxton
A truly delightful picture perfect small village of Thatched cottages dating from the early 17th and 18th centuries, although some of those near to the church are much older.
It was mentioned in the doomsday book and may have taken its name from “Wroces Stan” meaning Buzzards stone.
Much of the village remains as it was all those years ago, and you will pass by The Parish church of All Saints, an early 14th century church built of local stone.
You will arrive to early to enjoy a break at the beautiful Wroxton House Hotel, so we have directed you to the village of Wroxton itself. However, having past the Hotel on your approach to the village, we have offered some facts for you.
Part of Wroxton House was built in the 17th century, and today, four cottages have been converted to form Wroxton House, with work continuing into the 19th century. It is operated by “Best Western” group.

Driving down Church Street will allow you to see the most beautiful part of Wroxton, a delight to behold, full of charm.
The church at the end is the Parish church of All Saints and is a 14th century Grade 11 listed building. The West wing tower has a ring of five bells, cast in 1676, and the west tower was paid for by Lord North, and the church is the final resting place of Lord North, who was actually the Prime Minister from 1770 until 1782, and he had led Britain through the American War of Independence.
As you follow Church Street around the bend, you will arrive at the Duck Pond, fed by a stream, which was the villages source of water for hundreds of years. The ducks that freely wander around are looked after by local volunteers, and the ducks were in years gone by, protected at night in the lovely thatched hut, somewhat foxes could not get at them.

This Elegant Neo-Gothic mansion stands in 40 acres of parkland.
You will arrive here on the open driveway, and travel along a very lovely tree lined parkland area, with open grassland, well established old trees of every description, well worth a stroll along over grassy fields, there are no paths to follow so it’s all on grass.
The manor of Ettington (originally spelt Eatendon, and later on Eatington) “Ea”meaning water, and “Don” meant meadow. . It was first held by a man named Saswalo, a Saxon who lived here in 1086, before passing away around that time period. It was passed on to his son, Fulcher, Then following the time that his grandson took over before moving to Shirley in Derbyshire, and he then took the name Shirley as his own. and a later Saswallis, of 1247 stated never to sell the Manor of Ettington, as it’s known nowadays. It has remained in the care of the Shirley family since then.
Following the domesday book which stated a church existed here on the land, a second church was built in the 12th century in a Norman style, and the ruins of that church can be seen close to the main building, parts of it dated back from that 12th century. That old Manor house went through many restorations and extensions over the years, until demolished in 1641, and replaced in the 18th century, then during 1820, other extensions were added, with new chimneys, Gothic Stained glass windows added, but the beautiful stone work of yellow limestone and the Iron coloured stone really add a charm to the now existing building.
Its more modern history tells us that in 1935 Ettington Park was a nursing home, and became a prisoner of war camp.
Today, following a multi-million pound restoration, it is a beautiful luxury hotel,
